Enhancing Brain Connectivity With Infra-Low Frequency Neurofeedback During Aging: A Pilot Study.Olga R. Dobrushina, Larisa A. Dobrynina, Galina A. Arina, Elena I. Kremneva, Evgenia S. Novikova, Mariia V. Gubanova, Ekaterina V. Pechenkova, Anastasia D. Suslina, Vlada V. Aristova, Viktoriya V. Trubitsyna & Marina V. Krotenkova - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16.
Aging is associated with decreased functional connectivity in the main brain networks, which can underlie changes in cognitive and emotional processing. Neurofeedback is a promising non-pharmacological approach for the enhancement of brain connectivity. Previously, we showed that a single session of infra-low frequency neurofeedback results in increased connectivity between sensory processing networks in healthy young adults. In the current pilot study, we aimed to evaluate the possibility of enhancing brain connectivity during aging with the use of infra-low frequency neurofeedback. Nine (...)

Exit to the City and Chronotopia: History, Everyday Life, Future.Elena Y. Burlina, Natalia V. Baraboshina & Larisa G. Ilivitskaya - 2019 - Russian Journal of Philosophical Sciences 62 (11):27-45.
The article analyzes the interdisciplinary methodology of city research within the philosophical and cultural approach. The authors argue that at present, besides sociological and economic approaches to the interpretation of the city, the cultural and philosophical examination of city is of special interest. It combines both theoretical issues and the practical aspects. The authors present the philosophical and cultural analysis of the city as well as the general concept of chronotopia. The concept of chronotope, proposed by M. M. Bakhtin and (...)

Interpolation and implicit definability in extensions of the provability logic.Larisa Maksimova - 2008 - Logic and Logical Philosophy 17 (1-2):129-142.
The provability logic GL was in the field of interest of A.V. Kuznetsov, who had also formulated its intuitionistic analog—the intuitionisticprovability logic—and investigated these two logics and their extensions. In the present paper, different versions of interpolation and of the Bethproperty in normal extensions of the provability logic GL are considered. Itis proved that in a large class of extensions of GL almost all versions of interpolation and of the Beth propertyare equivalent. It follows that in finite slice logics over GL (...)

The Aleksanteri Institute of the University of Helsinki organized in 25–26 of September 2009 a special symposium Northern Lights — Facets of Enlightenment Culture with the aim to discuss form of Enlightenment thought in Sweden/Finland and Russia. The symposium, which was opened by Prof. Emeritus Matti Klinge, a renowned historian of 18th- and 19th-century Finland, had four participants from Russia, five from Finland and one from Germany; thus, it was yet a quite small event, but we hope that with it (...)

The basis of science is the hypothetico-deductive method and the recording of experiments in sufficient detail to enable reproducibility. We report the development of Robot Scientist "Adam," which advances the automation of both. Adam has autonomously generated functional genomics hypotheses about the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and experimentally tested these hypotheses by using laboratory automation. We have confirmed Adam's conclusions through manual experiments. To describe Adam's research, we have developed an ontology and logical language. The resulting formalization involves over 10,000 different (...)

    Modal logics of domains on the real plane.V. B. Shehtman - 1983 - Studia Logica 42 (1):63-80.
This paper concerns modal logics appearing from the temporal ordering of domains in two-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. As R. Goldblatt has proved recently, the logic of the whole plane isS4.2. We consider closed or open convex polygons and closed or open domains bounded by simple differentiable curves; this leads to the logics:S4,S4.1,S4.2 orS4.1.2.

    Basic principles of agroecology and sustainable agriculture.V. G. Thomas & P. G. Kevan - 1993 - Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics 6 (1):1-19.
In the final analysis, sustainable agriculture must derive from applied ecology, especially the principle of the regulation of the abundance and distribution of species (and, secondarily, their activities) in space and time. Interspecific competition in natural ecosystems has its counterparts in agriculture, designed to divert greater amounts of energy, nutrients, and water into crops. Whereas natural ecosystems select for a diversity of species in communities, recent agriculture has minimized diversity in favour of vulnerable monocultures. Such systems show intrinsically less stability (...)

From the editors. Our society, too, is apparently not uninterested in problems associated with such mysterious phenomena of the human psyche as clairvoyance, telepathy, and telekinesis. Expectations and hopes with regard to psychosurgical intervention on the human organism thrive; ideas of reincarnation and life after death, the interaction of our civilization with supposed inhabitants and civilizations of the Universe , the influence of the natural-cosmic environment on human destiny , or, on the contrary, man's independence of natural laws are widespread. Context: Under the title “Ask von Glasersfeld,” for 13 years the Oikos web site offered the opportunity to questioners to pose any type of query directly to Ernst von Glasersfeld. Purpose: Based on the collected questions and answers gathered on the web site, this series of four articles re-presents and highlights key aspects of von Glasersfeld’s life’s work constructing his model of radical constructivism. Method: The question-answer pairs are grouped into eight categories. Because the selected contents are so extensive, these (...)

On the Activity Approach to the Interpretation of the Phenomenon of Man: Toward a History of the Conceptions of Knowledge from Plato to Popper.V. S. Shvyrev - 2001 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 40 (2):19-30.
As we know, the activity approach to understanding man and his world became widespread in Russian philosophy in the 1960s-70s. At the time, it was, I should emphasize, one of the most significant manifestations of progressive trends in Soviet philosophical thought, which strived to overcome the stagnation and dogmatism of official Marxism. However, as it happens whenever the authority of an intellectual current is established, the activity approach and the category of activity were used frequently in a superficial way, simply (...)

One of the main problems in effective model theory is to find an appropriate information complexity measure of the algebraic structures in the sense of computability. Unlike the commonly used degrees of structures, the structure degree measure is total. We introduce and study the jump operation for structure degrees. We prove that it has all natural jump properties (including jump inversion theorem, theorem of Ash), which show that our definition is relevant. We study the relation between the structure degree jump (...)
